What is Botox?
Dr. Mary Lupo and her team describe Botox as a neuromodulator, a special medication that can be injected into the muscles to reduce tension. How does Botox work?
Botox works by reducing muscle contractions of the face, which, in turn, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and folds that have developed due to dynamic changes. Botox does not work immediately. Instead, it improves the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines over the course of several days. The results can then last approximately four months before patients need to see their dermatologist for reinjection. Botox cannot completely stop or reverse aging, but it can definitely slow the signs and help patients age gracefully without having plastic surgery completed. Botox is perfect for patients with mild to moderate wrinkles.Who is a candidate for Botox?
Botox is appropriate for adult patients who are interested in anti-aging services. Most patients are appropriate candidates, but we do encourage individuals who are curious about this treatment to schedule a consultation appointment and initial evaluation with our team. Botox is just one of many injectables that are available in our practice, and we may find that another injectable or a combination of injectables is best for an individual. Dr. Mary Lupo proudly provides other injectables instead of just Botox. Botox is just one neuromodulator that is well-known, but patients can also request others, including Xeomin and Dysport. Additionally, some patients may instead benefit more from a hyaluronic acid injectable called a dermal filler. We offer many brands of these including Restylane, Belotero, and Juvéderm. All of these add immediate volume directly into the fine lines and wrinkles of concern for fast results, and last many months before reinjection is required. For patients who are struggling with volume loss, collagen and elastin stimulators such as Sculptra may be recommended. These are injected into the cheeks to add volume and maintain it up to two years. Our professionals may also recommend a combination of neuromodulators, collagen stimulators, and dermal fillers to provide patients with a full “liquid facelift” with superb results.
