Chemical peels are a very popular cosmetic and medical service offered by Lupo Center for Aesthetic and General Dermatology. They are used to improve the skin’s tone and texture while reducing fine lines and wrinkles and to address troublesome skin conditions. Many of the chemical peels offered by Dr. Mary Lupo are light, superficial peels that do not require significant downtime or recovery.
A chemical peel removes the outer layer of the skin. This removes damaged and dead skin cells and rejuvenates the skin by bringing forth a fresh skin from underneath. This skin is youthful, smoother, and more radiant than the outer layer and gives patients an improved appearance almost immediately after treatment. Some peeling and redness may occur, but this happens within the next day or two, and it will give way to an improved appearance.
To determine one’s need for a chemical peel, Dr. Mary Lupo in New Orleans consults with a patient during an initial appointment. During this appointment, patients can describe their concerns with their skin and explain what they would like to accomplish with treatment. Deeper lines and wrinkles may benefit more from dermal fillers and other injectables such as Botox, and acne conditions may improve with alternative skin care products. All options are carefully explained to the patient to give the opportunity to choose the one that best fits his or her unique situation, lifestyle, and budget.
During this treatment, Dr. Mary Lupo applies a mixture of chemicals onto the face for a specific period, typically just a few minutes. The chemicals are neutralized, and the patient’s treatment is complete. Patients leave the practice with aftercare instructions, and may leave with products such as moisturizers to use for caring for the skin after the chemical peel.
Chemical peels are a wonderful way to rejuvenate the face and address skin concerns. Dr. Mary Lupo and the team at the Lupo Center for Aesthetic and General Dermatology are happy to assist in making patients feel better about their appearance and their skin’s overall health.
