Advanced injectors often use Juvederm and Sculptra together on the same day, because different products are better in different locations. In the same area, products can be layered, but usually we do this during different treatment sessions. Sculptra is great to use first as it is injected deeper, and all over, (except the glabella and lips) and forms a support of collagen to re-shape the gaunt and tired face from aging. Juvederm is an excellent hyaluronic acid filler for regional fill to augment the lips and ease out those fine lines around the mouth. I sometimes call it icing the cake that Sculptra baked.
Sculptra can be used in conjunction with Fractional CO2 to improve the overall skin quality and thicken the dermis, which often improves scars. My favorite deep scar treatment is to first do a spot Deep FX fractional CO2, then a global treatment to the face with Sculptra to improve facial atrophy, then if needed, a spot treatment with a spot filler like Restylane or Juvederm to top off the correction. This trio makes the scar correction last years.
Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid (HA). PLLA, which is the active ingredient of Sculptra, is poly-L-lactic acid. PLLA has been used in medicine for many years, especially in dissolvable sutures such as Vicryl. PLLA is mixed with sterile, preserved water several days prior to injection so the material is fully hydrated. It is injected deeply and all over the face except for the lips, nose and central forehead to achieve an improvement in facial lipoatrophy. It works slowly, but lasts a long time. It can be combined with other fillers and lasers as needed.
