Learn about Kybella injections, including cost, for New Orleans patients
By Dr. Mary Lupo
New Orleans, LA dermatologist, Dr. Mary Lupo, is proud to offer her patients the latest and greatest solutions to a variety of common aesthetic and medical concerns of the skin, hair, nails, and body. When patients are unhappy with their “double chin,” they may feel as though their only option is plastic surgery. Luckily, patients can now enjoy treatment of submental fullness with an injection called Kybella. Dr. Lupo was a principal investigator for the FDA approval of Kybella.
Kybella is an injection that is formulated with deoxycholic acid, and is used to target unwanted fat cells. When Kybella is injected underneath the chin into the fat in the area, it greatly reduces the appearance of the fullness in the neck area. While it begins to take effect after the first treatment, patients will need several appointments to see optimum results. These are often scheduled several weeks apart. The results are gradual, but most patients are pleased with the final look! The injections permanently destroys fat cells.
Who is a candidate?
Any patient who is unhappy with submental fullness is welcome to take the time to speak to our team of professionals about the advantages of moving forward with treatment using Kybella. During an appointment, Dr. Mary Lupo will perform an evaluation and discuss with patients the pros and cons of using Kybella for the treatment of a double chin.
The cost of injections varies, depending on the severity of the submental fullness and how well their body responds to the treatment. It is important to schedule a consultation visit with Dr. Mary Lupo to discuss what is expected in terms of overall cost for the entire process. We may be able to work with patients to develop a payment schedule that works for their budget to give them access to these amazing aesthetic services!
The process of Kybella injections
The entire process begins with an evaluation. During a consultation visit, the doctor will determine if patients are candidates for this service. Once it has been decided that patients want to move forward with treatment, they schedule an appointment for their first treatment. Following the injections, patients are given after-care instructions to follow, and then can speak to our front office team about scheduling their next appointment. After several treatments have been performed over several weeks, patients will begin to see the results of this treatment.
This cannot be determined until patients visit Dr. Mary Lupo for a consultation appointment. However, most patients benefit from around four sessions total, depending on how well their body responds to the treatment.
What are possible side effects of Kybella?
While Kybella is safe and effective for treating submental fullness, there are some temporary side effects that patients should be aware of. Most of the common side effects that develop include swelling, soreness and numbness in the injection area. These last less than a week or two and are often minor overall. Downtime is short, with many patients able to return to their busy lifestyle the following day after injections. However, there are more serious side effects for patients to consider. These include trouble swallowing, nerve inflammation, and muscle weakness in the facial area. Should any of these more severe side effects occur, patients should visit their healthcare provider as soon as possible for a follow-up. Dr. Mary Lupo supplies information regarding post-injection care and side effects to watch for.
