Understanding Sculptra
Sculptra is a designated cosmetic injectable liquid that is used for restoring volume loss in the facial area especially the cheeks and temples. This volume loss can be caused by excessive weight loss or aging, due to the natural depletion of collagen and elastin in the face. Sculptra is formulated with a synthetic type of Poly-L-Lactic Acid. This particular injectable is safe to use and has been approved by the FDA for cosmetic enhancement. There are no animal by-products used in the development of Sculptra injectables.How does it work?
Sculptra works by stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen, which allows for gradual growth and volume production in necessary tissue. Sculptra treatment starts with a consultation appointment at the Lupo Center for Aesthetic and General Dermatology to determine candidacy. Once patients have decided that Sculptra is right for them, they can undergo treatment immediately or schedule a future appointment for injections. Patients can relax in the treatment chair as Dr. Mary Lupo pinpoints the best areas for injections and applies a numbing cream before the injection. Patients often find that the treatments are relatively comfortable. Patients must then wait for the results. Results can take some time as the body produces collagen in the area but this can often be seen only around a month after the initial treatment. Results will last many years as long patients have follow-up injections performed to continue to stimulate collagen in the cheeks.Is there downtime or recovery?
Patients often worry about downtime as they lead busy lives and already have trouble taking time off of their work schedule for vacation! Sculptra does not have any actual downtime. Patients return right back to their day without interruption. Some swelling and tenderness may occur for a few days but will soon subside and not be too concerning for many of our patients. Sometimes bruising may occur, but this is mild and can often be concealed using cosmetics.
