Will reading on my smartphone or tablet while lying in bed (with my head tilted forward on a pillow) negatively affect my neckline by either worsening wrinkles or creating sagging skin?

Dear Teresa:
Yes, possibly! It's a better idea to read at a table that permits better posture. It may help to do slight neck extensions with no tension on the platysma muscle (the muscle that runs from the jawline to the collarbone) to counteract the creasing. If you find that the skin on your neck is aging quicker than you'd like, we do offer a few anti-aging neck treatments: Ultherapy, Fraxel and Nectifirm.

 Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System Celeste Albaral is our Cosmetic Coordinator, and she has been selected by her peers as our Employee of the Month! As the Employee of the Month, Celeste has been rewarded with a skincare product of her choice: the Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System. Due to new privacy regulations, we are not allowed to send or receive photos via email. By downloading the TouchMD Stat app, you can use a secure portal to send photos of any concerning skin conditions to us. You can also use the portal to view photos taken during your consultation.

Medical Moonlighting:
Doctors Learning Cosmetic Procedures to Make Cash

Recently The Today Show highlighted the fact that an increasing number of family practitioners, gynecologists, dentists and spas are performing cosmetic procedures simply by taking a few weekend courses. These weekend courses are not nearly as comprehensive as the three years of training during residency that board certified dermatologists complete after medical school.
Patients should always do their research before seeing a new physician especially when they are interested in cosmetic procedures. Concerns should arise when these unqualified doctors or spas are offering deeply discounted prices for cosmetic procedures because this typically means the technician is undertrained or using illegal products.
We want to ensure our patients that both Dr. Mary Lupo and Dr. Kate Holcomb are board certified dermatologists who have specific education and training in medical and cosmetic dermatology and participate in continuing-education programs to stay up to date on the latest procedures. Dr. Lupo is an internationally recognized teacher and lecturer at respected meetings and is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Holcomb is also board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, and she is a clinical professor at Tulane University School of Medicine and trains residents in the Tulane Resident Cosmetic Clinic.
