Dear Dr. Lupo:
I am 33 and have had two children. With each of my pregnancies, my leg veins have gotten worse. I want to have one more child. Should I wait until my third pregnancy is behind me, or should I come in soon and be treated even if I want to have another child in a couple of years?

Dear Michelle:
This is a question I have heard frequently over the past 30 years I have been doing Sclerotherapy for unsightly leg veins. I strongly recommend you treat as these veins appear. You will look better and your legs will feel better with treatment. With the new Asclera sclerosant, pain is negligible. You must wear stocking after each session, but normal activities are permitted (a very important issue for a busy mom). As soon as you become pregnant, we would suspend treatments (most likely, you would be finished in less than 3 months anyway) because pregnant woman are at increased risk of blood clots and Sclerotherapy might increase the risk in pregnant women. I would recommend also that as soon as you become pregnant, you be fitted for support stockings to prevent worsening of the veins during the pregnancy. Good luck!

On October 23, 2013, the FDA approved a new hyaluronic acid dermal filler from Allergan called Juvederm Voluma. It is specifically indicated for age-related volume loss of the mid face that causes the skin to sag and creates a tired and gaunt appearance.
Because of Dr. Lupo's previous experience and knowledge with dermal fillers, she was chosen by Allergan to be on the Juvederm Voluma advisory board and to be a trainer of other board certified, core aesthetic physicians to teach them the best practices for this filler.

Dr. Lupo Named As An ExpertInjector
