There are many measures that people will take to cover hair loss or thinning. This includes comb-overs, wigs, extensions, microfiber hair bonds, and scalp dying. While these may be fine temporary solutions, there are other ways to address these issues with the assistance of a medical professional. If you suffer from hair loss and aren’t satisfied by your current strategy to hide it, we can help! At the practice of the Lupo Center for Aesthetic and General Dermatology, Dr. Mary Lupo is excited to offer solutions for patients who are struggling with hair thinning and loss. With the use of platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, patients can utilize the plasma in their own blood to help in stimulating hair growth in a more natural and holistic manner, without the need for plastic surgery or hair transplants!
How do PRP injections work?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections stimulate dormant hair follicles to help them begin producing hair. PRP involves harvesting one’s own blood, processing it through a centrifuge so that only the enriched, activated platelets remain, which are then injected into the scalp. These activated platelets release several key growth factors which can stimulate natural hair growth. While new hair growth may occur after a single treatment session, several treatments over many months and subsequent bi-annual maintenance treatments are typically needed to achieve an overall thicker appearance. PRP therapy is very safe since the injection material is derived from one’s own body and no foreign materials are used.
Can PRP be combined with other hair loss and thinning treatments?
Combining PRP scalp injections and Nutrafol healthy hair supplements available at the Lupo Center for Aesthetic and General Dermatology provides natural and thicker hair growth. Nutrafol is a specialized daily dietary supplement used by our team to help patients naturally grow and thicken the hair from within. Using the latest biotechnology, the Nutrafol supplements are formulated with patented, standardized and clinically-tested ingredients. The components of the vitamins in Nutrafol act to reduce the effects of stress on the body—especially as it relates to hair loss.
