As we age, the skin begins to sag and look gaunt because of the loss of collagen and elastin, bone density, fat pockets, and muscle. And once the skin sags, it’s hard to get it smooth again with at-home products. While hyaluronic acid filler benefits many patients, it’s not the only way we can correct volume loss. At the Lupo Center for Aesthetic and General Dermatology in New Orleans, Louisiana, we are excited to turn to a groundbreaking bio-stimulatory product called
Renuva - an injectable treatment that gradually replaces the body’s own fat in areas where age-related fat and volume loss have occurred.
What Is Renuva and How It Works
Renuva is an FDA-approved bio-compatible extracellular matrix that uses the same collagens, proteins, and growth factors found in human fat. After the injection, Renuva gradually breaks down while stimulating the body’s natural process to create its own fat. Volume restoration occurs due to the formation of new fat cells and new blood vessels. This, in turn, provides a more youthful and healthier appearance to the skin with just one treatment! Multiple treatments may be desired for optimal results.
Renuva is injected by our board certified dermatologists to mainly restore age-related volume loss. However, this treatment can also be used for the treatment of other concerns, including depressed scars, liposuction irregularities, and dimpling cellulite.
After the formation of new fat cells from the injection, these new fat cells last as long as regular fat cells normally last. While it varies from individual to individual, research findings suggest that human fat cells can last up to 10 years.
What Can I Expect After Renuva Injections?
There is no downtime after a treatment with Renuva. We advise avoiding vigorous exercise for 24 hours, and regular activity can resume afterward. There may be some swelling, redness or bruising to the injection site, which will subside within a few days. We take all precautions to reduce these side effects and discomfort during the treatment.
