Restylane and Perlane are two more solutions in the Hyaluronic acid family of dermal fillers. These FDA approved products were initially designed to treat lines and folds that formed around the nose and mouth, called nasolabial folds. Of the two fillers, Restylane was the first to enter the field of dermatology, gaining approval in 2003.
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are incredibly effective at producing results that last, while also affecting the skin in a gentle, compatible way. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar compound that is naturally in the human body. This sugar is what keeps our joints operating smoothly, our eyes moist, and our skin taut and elastic. With age and sun exposure, our skin changes, and we begin to notice signs of aging such as fine lines, sagging, and shadows.
Restylane is a great choice for filling the fine lines that form around the lips. However, both Restylane and Perlane can also be used to add volume to the lips, cheeks, and temples. Under-eye hollowing is a problem for which Restylane may be used.
It is the versatile nature of Restylane that makes this filler such a wonderful tool to fight the signs of aging. This safe, effective alternative to surgical procedures is a popular choice for patients as young as their twenties for lip augmentation. Patients well into their seventies, as well, love the natural results Restylane provides when injected into the fine lines around the lips and mouth. Used as a complementary treatment to
Botox or
Dysport,
Restylane can lead to beautiful face reshaping for a more youthful aesthetic.
