Everyone’s facial structure is different including their lip shape and size. “Ideal lips” are proportionate to one’s overall facial structure, where the ideal upper lip is usually about 40% of the total height of the lips and the bottom lip is about 60% of the total height. In order to achieve ideal lips, some people may benefit from lip enhancement with Restylane® Silk.
In 2014, the FDA cleared Restylane® Silk as the first product to enhance the mouth area by increasing the volume of patients’ lips and smoothing wrinkles. This injectable filler is a protective and lubricating gel made of a hyaluronic acid, which is produced naturally by the body. In its FDA clinical study, patients needed one or two injections of Restylane® Silk over a period of two weeks to achieve the best lip volume and wrinkle appearance. The effect lasts about six months in most patients.
Restylane® Silk’s unique, refined formulation is specially designed for precise lip shaping and for smoothing the lines around the mouth to create a natural look. Restylane® Silk contains 0.3% lidocaine to reduce any discomfort during the treatment.
Dr. Lupo was selected by Galderma, the makers of Restylane® Silk, as one of the few physicians in the country to use this products its pre-launch phase to train other physicians and to provide feedback to the company.
Avoid these medications for at least two weeks prior to injections: Aspirin or Ibuprofen, Fish Oil, Vitamin E, “G” supplements (ginko, ginseng, garlic), St. John's Wort and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like Celebrex, as they may cause thinning of the blood.
