Cool sculpting is a special device that administered cold energy to reduce fat through a process called cryolipolysis. This FDA cleared treatment is safe, comfortable and requires no scarring and aesthetics or downtime. How does it work? Cool sculpting freezes fat cells, which are then naturally flushed out of the body by the lymphatic system. Results are gradual and occur over the course of a few weeks, with the most dramatic results after two months. Who is a candidate? Good candidates have noticeable bulges of fat on an area of the body, such as the abdomen, flanks, arms or chin that resist diet and exercise. The cool sculpting procedure is not a weight loss solution for people who are obese, but a non-surgical alternative to liposuction. How long is each session. How many sessions will I need? Pre-treatment
As with all other procedures at the Lupo Center, CoolSculpting starts with a consultation. Dr. Lupo asks about the areas that bother you most. After evaluating the areas you are most interested in improving, Dr. Lupo discusses ways to get your desired result with an individualized treatment plan. She will show you before and after photos of our successfully treated patients so you can see results using different treatment plans for each patient. But remember, each patient is unique in the amount of fat they have and the way their body metabolizes the fat after the treatment so treatments will vary. Once we have a plan in place for you, we will start with the number one most bothersome area first and address it until your needs are met - we call this approach “treat to complete.”Many people are great candidates for CoolSculpting; however, it is not a substitute for traditional weight loss methods such as diet and exercise. You will also want to discuss conditions such as allergies and sensitivities, which may increase your risks of complications and interfere with post-treatment results.

Treatment
Your appointment starts with marking the treatment area and selecting the appropriate applicator for your needs. Once the treatment site is cleansed, the applicator is attached to the body and you are put in a seated position. Once you are comfortable and relaxed, the CoolSculpting treatment begins. Patients may feel some tugging, mild pinching, cramping and intense cold at the site of treatment, due to the pressure from the vacuum applicator and the cooling from the treatment. These sensations are well-tolerated and after a few minutes the targeted area becomes numb as the applicator reached the controlled cool temperatures. Many of our patients read or even doze off during the procedure.Afterward, the applicator is removed and the area is massaged to further enhance the breakdown of fat. Immediately following, patients may notice temporary redness, bruising, blanching, tenderness or itching.

Hi! I am Stephanie. I am the Cool Sculpting technician at the Lupo Center and today we are actually going to treat one of our staff members. Her main focus today is her double chin. She does not like it. Basically, extending from this jawline, underneath to this side. So I will do all the markings for each treatment. But we are going to start with just the submentum directly under the chin. First, I assess the area and we have already discussed what she doesn’t like, then you have to do pre-pictures which we have already taken. And now, I am going to get the drawings on. I actually have the patient tucked just like that because it helps the skin to sag and to get the actual treatment area a little bit easier. So you kind of feel around for where the jawline is and you want a decent amount of overlap. But still gets a little bit extension out to her jawline. So we will treat all of this area. We are going to do the same thing on this side. I will have you put your head back so it is really going to be one here, one directly in the center and one all the way and it is going to get firm from here to here (not clear) with the (not clear). So now you can relax back, (clear back) in position on your back, hair out of the way. So now we are going to start cleansing the area (not clear). You do this for a full minute and I can still see a slight amount of marking from the sharpie which is where we are going to actually place the applicator. And then this one is different. It is actually a gel too and the gel is going to help protect your skin from any kind of thermal burn or any kind of thermal injury. So you just rub it all over the whole area and that is going to be within the applicator. I go a little bit outside the line. Now, we turn on applicator and I have the patient tuck their chind down slightly, it helps to see exactly where we are going and you just go directly onto the chin so it seals the suction. I ask if there is any pinching along the jawline and then secure it with a strap and I don’t like this part resting on them so I put some gauze right above there. And add the movable stabilizer device. So how does that feel? It feels like it is pulling a little bit but it is not painful. And we haven’t started the (not clear). Does that feel better with the actual applicator holder? It kind of helps to take the weight off. Now we will start the coolld. Minute 1 – 3: basically the cool just progresses and it gets a little bit colder each minute. Them minute 3 to 5, you can have a tingling or a burning sensation which I try to describe to people as if you stick your hand in an ice chest. You are looking for a drink and you haven’t found your drink and it starts to burn. It’s the same exact thing. Or if you have ice for a sports injury, that little burning sensation right before it goes numb. So, I tell my patients to beep me, let me know when they are having that just so I can kind of talk them through or distract them. And then once you hit 40 minutes, you just need to relax and this will be numb.

Well, I did all of these and these and cabbage diets, and it's a crime to do, cabbage diet when you live in New Orleans, and so I did CoolSculpting to get my cool results.
Post-treatment
One to three days afterward, we will check in on you to make sure you are feeling well and to discuss any side effects that you may have questions about. We will schedule a follow-up appointment to take after photos to track your progress. Patients may start to see changes as quickly as three weeks after a treatment and will experience the most dramatic results after two months. The body will continue to flush out fat cells for four to six months after treatment. Based on your original assessment plan, multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve optimal results.While results are patient-specific, once fat cells are treated, they cannot regrow. The ability to store fat cells at the treatment site is diminished, though fat can be distributed elsewhere.

HOW DOES COOLSCULPTING WORK?
CoolSculpting is based on the science of cryolipolysis, which refers to the freezing and eventual death of fat cells. CoolSculpting providers precisely plan and apply cool temperatures in a controlled manner with specialized applicators. In the months following treatment, targeted fat cells are processed by the body naturally.
HOW DOES TREATMENT FEEL?
As the applicator isolates the treatment area and applies cooling, patients may experience a tugging, pinching, and intensely cold sensation. This is temporary. As CoolSculpting goes to work, you will not feel anything. The area goes numb. Side effects are also temporary and may include blanching, redness, itching, and tenderness.
HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I SET ASIDE FOR TREATMENT?
Depending on the size of the area to be treated, each session can take as few as 35 minutes. You may require more than one treatment session to get the results you desire. Dr. Mary Lupo and her staff performed Fraxel laser on my face and I had incredible results. The service, which is the brand Fraxel, isn't the least expensive in the city, but when done correctly by a professional like Dr. Lupo, the money is well spent. For me, I had issues with age spots and melasma, which were significantly diminished in one treatment--as well as fine lines around my eyes. My face looked young and bouncy and bright.
