Q: I am 45 years old and I just had 2 syringes of Perlane placed into my nasolabial folds for the first time. The problem is that I do not look any better. It is weird because my folds do look less pronounced, but I still look a bit gaunt and tired looking. Do I need a facelift?

A: I doubt facelift is the answer, but something nicknamed the "liquid face lift" might be the answer. Perlane into the nasolabial fold is likely not the most important procedure that you need. Rather, you need volume replacement into the cheeks, into the lateral part of your face in front of your ears, and into the temples. Filler into these areas give a lift to the central face without bulking up the mid face (which can give you a canine or simian look). The result is a softer appearance where you look rested and refreshed not pulled and plastic. I tend to use more Sculptra and Radiesse for this need, but other fillers if used at the correct depth and in the correct amount can do the trick. Be sure to see a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon who agrees with this vision of helping you look like a better version of yourself, and not to make you look weird.

Q: Can Radiesse have any effect on blood tests?

A: Radiesse is calcium hydroxyapatite, an FDA approved filler for improvement of facial lines and folds. I also use and recommend its off-label use for revolumizing of the aging face and hands. It will not affect your blood parameters.

Q: I have heard that chin implant surgery is on the rise. I have always thought that my nose was too big, but now I realize that it is really that my chin is too small. I know you do non-surgical rejuvenation. Is there a non-surgical option for my problem?

A: Yes, there is. Radiesse is a stiffer filler and it is the optimal filler for non-surgical chin enhancement. The results are seen immediately and last about 9 months. I have been doing this procedure since 2005 and have had no complications. Of course, other fillers like Juvederm Ultra Plus and Perlane can be used, but in this area, Radiesse is my first choice.

The best dermatologist in all of the Louisiana easily. She’s is very knowledgeable and can help you with your skin conditions. Make sure you tell her everything and don’t be shy because she moves fast, and you may forget to tell her something. But all in all I highly suggest her.
