Sculptra

“A lot of people really like Sculptra because it is the filler to use if you don't want anyone to know you're undergoing cosmetic treatment, because the improvement is very gradual.”
- Dr. Lupo
As we experience our own aging process, our skin loses its firm, full, youthful suppleness. The effects of years of sun exposure may lead to damage, as well, as our skin becomes thinner and loses that natural elasticity it once had. An additional part of the aging process, the loss of fat tissue beneath the skin, can cause facial contours to look more drawn and sunken in. As the face tapers under the effects of age, wrinkles form on the skin.

Although we may want to slow the effects of time and age at a pace that works for us, undergoing a dramatic reversal through cosmetic surgery or immediate cosmetic treatments may be too drastic for some. In such cases, Sculptra is a wonderful choice for facial rejuvenation. Sculptra Aesthetic is the first injectable solution that achieves gradual, subtle results, resulting in a more natural-looking appearance. Shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds are gradually corrected after Sculptra treatments, as lost collagen is replaced through ongoing encouragement of production. Dr. Lupo considers Sculptra more of a dermal thickening agent that firms and lifts rather than a conventional filler.

Are you looking to get fillers done in a more natural way, without looking bulked up? Then Sculptra from Lupo Center for Aesthetic and General Dermatology near New Orleans, LA is what you are looking for. Watch the video as Dr. Mary Lupo explains all you need to know about Sculptra.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is more about being a skin stimulating or bio stimulatory filler rather than being the filler in the sense of hyaluronic acid fillers.

What is Sculptra used for and benefits?

Sculptra is made from Poly-L-Lactic acid. PLLA results in the biostimulation of the patient's collagen in the area where you're injecting.

Sculptra is a liquid with fine particles in it. Hence, it doesn't give you any bulking up.

It also makes it a perfect agent for areas in the temple where you want to avoid potential injection into a blood vessel of a gel filler.

Who is an ideal candidate, and how long does it last?

Sculptra is an optimal product. It helps people with gaunt faces and sharp cheekbones since they prefer to not look puffy.

The results are long-lasting because it stimulates collagen production.

The full course of Sculptra is done usually in 3 visits over approximately 4 months. The final result will usually last 2 years or more.
Sculptra gives you the ability to reverse the signs of aging gradually, naturally. A full course of treatment typically includes three sessions with certified Sculptra trainer Dr. Mary Lupo. Sessions are scheduled a few months apart, with overall results lasting as long as two years. If what you want is the natural, durable correction of facial lines and folds, then Sculptra may be the perfect anti-aging treatment for you.

Through a series of Sculptra treatments, the texture of the skin is greatly improved, feeling firmer, and the shape of the face regains more youthful contours. Men and women who look gaunt and tired due to the effects of weight loss or illness, or simply because of genetics can experience greater fullness in facial contours without having to put on additional pounds to do so.

Dr. Mary Lupo was chosen as one of the first members of the physician advisory board for Sculptra Aesthetic in April of 2003. That same year, she received training in the use of the product in Geneva, Switzerland. Sculptra was approved in the U.S. in 2004. Since that time, Dr. Lupo has been a certified training provider for this product.

Sculptra two stick to help shed years off your appearance with a defined jawline
Sculptra two stick offers a defined and beautiful jawline especially among those who are slightly older. Dr. Lupo shows how simple the procedure is by doing it on herself!

Good morning! So when a injecting dermatologist can’t inject their patients, they practice on themselves. And since I have been injecting myself for a long time, this isn’t anything new. So what I’m going to show you today, I call these Sculptra two stick. It is two critical sticks, easy to do once you know the plane in which you are gliding the needle. And this two stick is designed to accentuate the jawline as we get older. As you can see I haven’t had a face lift and at sixty five plus I think that’s quite an achievement. So I am going to show you the quick two stick I do on myself periodically when I think I need a little perk up. So the first thing I am going to do, I am going to use CLN. And the reason I am going to use this is I don’t like to have water on my face immediately before injections and in my practice I use this as my prep. Because I wiped it off without any water and CLN’s active ingredient, you probably have heard me speak of it in other posts, is Sodium Hypochloride. And Sodium Hypochloride is what’s in bleach. And it kills just about everything. So you always want to make sure that the skin is pristinely clean before you do any injections. You don’t want to have any makeup in the area and if you use a numbing agent, you want to make sure that’s completely off before you inject. Now, what I do with the two stick is I go where we have the jawline meet and as you can see I am under what we call the subdermal plane and I do a little reflux and then I am slowly injecting as I withdraw the needle. And I am giving a massage to the area and then I wipe that excess off again and you can see you have very little blood with this. It is a pretty blood-less (not clear), just a little spot where the needle went in – so that’s stick 1. And stick 2 involves going perpendicular to the first one and going up. As if you want to lift and define that jaw line and again you just inject as you withdraw and then you massage. Now massage after sculpture is important, immediately afterwards. But it is also very important to do massage five times a day for five days afterward. And what I find is when I do this, it keeps me with a defined jawline.

So what do all these fillers have in common? Well in my practice all of these fillers are used by me to improve the contour of the jaw line. Now as of this time there is no product that is formally FDA approved for Jaw line definition. However, doctors have been using these products for many years, off label in order to define and refine a jaw line. Now I am currently in an FDA study for the approval of one of these products for jaw line definite so there will be more to come.

Sculptra Aesthetics Collagen-Building Filler is a superior injectable treatment to revolumize gaunt and sagging skin

Sculptra Aesthetics Collagen-Building Filler is a superior injectable treatment to revolumize gaunt and sagging skin

Today I want to talk to you about Sculptra Aesthetic. This is a very unique filler because it is not a space occupying filler like the hyaluronic acid fillers. Hyaluronic acid fillers are those like Restylane, Juvéderm, Voluma, and Belotero. This product is very unique because it is a liquid that has particles of Poly-L Lactic acid suspended in sterile water. What this does is that it gives you dermal stimulation of collagen, and as a result the face will improve in its architecture. You will look less gaunt and it improves the contours of the cheek and jaw line but it does this without bulking up the skin without giving you a golf ball or overdone look. The difference with Sculptra Aesthetic is that it must be done in series of over 3 visits. It is a little bit like watching water boil in that it takes a while for you to see the benefits of Sculptra, often at least 4 months but the back end is a benefit because it lasts very long. Up to 2 years, so ask your board certified dermatologist about Sculptra – I was very honored in 2003 to be on the very first advisory board for Dermic when they bought Sculptra from Europe and I trained with the product in Geneva before it was FDA approved here in the united states.

Dr. Mary Lupo discusses the benefits of Sculptra

In 2003 I was chosen to be in an Elite group of doctors to be the Sculptra advisory board before it was bought to the united states from Europe. Sculptra is Poly-L Lactic acid and it is really more of a tissue tightening and sculpting device more than an ordinary filler. Infact it is actually a liquid and as such we use it to redefine and re-sculpt the face. I find that the people who are particularly good for Sculptra are for people with very long thin faces, and suffer from something called lipoatrophy. Lipoatrophy simply means that you don’t have a lot of facial fat and these results in your face looking gaunt and tired. I have been a trainer for Sculptra since 2004. And I continue to use that product today it is one of the many fillers that we use in our practice as we individualize the treatments for each patient. Choosing the optimal filler for each patient as they present.

Avoid these medications for at least two weeks prior to injections: Aspirin or Ibuprofen, Fish Oil, Vitamin E, “G” supplements (ginko, ginseng, garlic), St. John's Wort and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like Celebrex, as they may cause thinning of the blood.
